Dog Leashes
Leashes are a big part of training for dogs. They work
with the collar to control the dog and teach the dog how to walk along
with the owner. They are a few different kinds of leashes; some that
should only be used after the dog is comfortable on a leash.
The standard leash ranges from about four to eight feet. The best length
is generally a six foot leash. The leash can be made from nylon or leather.
Some dogs are prone to chew and for those dogs a chain leash can be
used, but never a choke chain.
Retractable leashes allow the dog to explore as they walk. These leashes
should only be used after a dog has been properly trained on a leash,
otherwise they will never learn to not pull on the leash. Adjustable
leashes are like the standard leash with several rings attached so the
length may be adjusted.
Along with dog leashes, leads are another great way to train a dog to
walk with their owner. The lead goes around the chest over the head.
When the dog pulls they are automatically turned, this teaches the dog
they get nowhere with pulling.
